Influence of Gonadectomy on Canine Behavior

Due to the lack of unequivocal scientific evidence, gonadectomy’s effects on dogs’ behavior are still debated. Since veterinarians differ in their opinion, there may be considerable diversity advice received by owners. This study aimed evaluate gonadectomy dog across time. Ninety-six owners (48 control dogs and 48 experimental dogs) were interviewed twice (T0 T1, nine months later) obtain information about dog’s behavior. No change was found eating or weight both groups. Compared T0, at reported show less mounting behavior, pull leash, roaming behaviors. Marking did not vary time for groups dogs. A tendency reduce owner-directed aggression observed T1 male dogs, while no controls. The literature reports conflicting effect suggesting that further studies this topic should undertaken.
